To LIVE & LOVE Responsibly
Just a quick update with hopefully and much longer one to follow in the near future. The past 10 days as been pretty busy, tragic, and completely exhausting. I am heading off to Butler, PA this coming weekend for the start of class #2 out of the 3 I will take consecutively until the third wraps in May (every other weekend out of town and lots and lots of reading and paperwork). A week ago Saturday our community, and teens/families in our church, suffered the loss of 19 year old Andrew Marketich. Because this is my personal blog I will share that alcohol, reckless driving, and being out at 2 AM = the complete tragic and preventable nature of his loss. Andrew was very close to one of our families and I knew him through my work at the local Christian school where he graduated from in 2006.
I was asked to co-officiate the funeral and embraced the opportunity to help in any way possible. It was very difficult to spend 3 hours at the viewing and repeatedly witness people physically, emotionally, and spiritually go through that part of the grieving process. The most tragic reality was that many of Andrews peers do not have a living understanding of Jesus Christ. Though many others do, I cannot escape the eternal dangers of those who choose to live a silent faith among their peers and those they have the greatest influence. This thought came out as a rather emotional challenge to my students Sunday morning. When will WE share the hope that changes everything... including times like this! If we do not... what does that say?

If you have ever questioned why Ashley and I don't drink... this is why! We will not live a double standard. We will not defend the use of something that by in large is the destruction of the physical and emotional lives of individuals, greatest contributor to violence, crime, and sexual misconduct. We will not make an option something that is completely and utterly misused and abused in the hands of teenagers and young adults. Pick this debate up with me after you stand in the principals office of your local high school with two state highway patrolman waiting to tell a brother and sister that their mother has just been killed by an underage young adult driving drunk (incident 3 years ago). Let me just try and see how anyone can justify the utter stupidity of the thought "drink responsibly". How about this... LIVE RESPONSIBLY... LOVE RESPONSIBLY! For this I am growing increasingly passionate!
Please pray for the Marketich family and Andrews friends. Andrew leaves behind three brothers and one sister. Pray that those of his friends who know the living Christ will have opportunity to share with those that do not.

It's been busy... but here's an update!
The Weekend: Saturday Ash had to work so Adon and I held it down until G&G Hausman came for lunch. Hung out with them for the afternoon and laid low. Saturday night was a great night. Went to a Jamestown Jets hockey game with my bud Aaron and about 17 of our students. The hockey was good... Tim Horton's was hot... and one of our students almost got hit by a puck! Sunday was busy!!! Usual church stuff and I was pleased to see both Wes & his daddy Mike rocking their #86 jerseys to church! It was a busy sports day as the CAVS & Pistons squared off early in the day and of course the Steelers took the Cards in a doozy of a game... nauseating actually! Ash felt secure with a 13 pt. lead at the half and headed to bed. So there I was left all alone to anguish the entire second half. My perseverance was rewarded! Pictures at the bottom of the post!
Adon: Not so good as a fever peaked it's head late Saturday afternoon and has remained through this post. We've stayed home with since Sunday and I took him to the Doc on Monday only to find out it's a double ear infection... again... like # kazillion! He's upstairs right now SleepWheezing!
Things to do: I've been swimming in unorganized mail for the last three weeks. Taxes, Insurance, Medical statements... grown-up junk! I really need to get at that as paper swallows our house and clutters my nerves!Grateful for: FACEBOOK ~ I've been able to connect with a ton of friends from New Albany! It's been really nice... as well as highly addictive! Ash has also been in daily contact with her college roomie, Trisha (icia???), which has been great (e-mail as she's not on FB yet).
MOVIE to Watch: FIREPROOF ~ Married, divorced, single... whatever! We all need to digest the truths of this movie!

Peace & Rest
We all intrinsically desire peace & rest. It pervades our physical, emotional, and spiritual longings. We unfortunately have often become so turned off by spiritual representatives that we try and focus that search and place our hope in the political and intellectual. Well, you won't ever find peace in the political arena (historically proven). The intellectual on the other hand is the desire to pursue... but pursue what? I mean... doesn't that need to be identified. In fact, go ahead and pursue disproving something but at least you've got a focus... and you may be shocked at the proof you find!?!?John 14: 27 ~ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Matthew 11:28-29 ~ "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
These are the words of Jesus... not of a politician, world leader, mega church Pastor... Jesus who at the very least legitimately WAS someone (then & more so now) that the world took significant interest in, and as a historical figure has not been disproved... nor has his way of BEING! Who is Jesus beyond that? Well, critics from then until now have and continue to pursue that question... as do you and I... at least at some point.
Allow me to apologize on behalf of anyone who has ever represented... and subsequently embarrassed Jesus simultaneously. I'm not Jesus... they aren't either! You may have searched your candidate, political party, philosophical standing, or reason for being a Buffalo Bills fan... and whatever else you hold closely... but do you have peace and rest? When life is not peaceful and rest will not come... do you still have it?
At the age of 18 I encountered Jesus... not the church, not a charismatic orator (in fact, it was a very humble and simple man), not an emotionally fueled concert/worship service... simply Jesus in a field in Ohio. A field in Ohio? Really? Well, he did like to hang out in the countryside after all... I guess he found peace and rest there!
